In the second game of the Champions Trophy 2025, Bangladesh lost their five wickets at score of 35 and saw themselves in immense trouble. However, Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali held their nerves in the crunch situation and rescued the Bangla side. Both middle-order batters stitched a 154-run partnership and gave some tough moments to the two-time title winners. In the ninth over of the match, Jaker was dropped on 0 by Rohit Sharma on Axar Patel’s delivery. The missed chance denied a hat-trick to Patel, who got rid of Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in back-to-back deliveries. Taking advantage of the lifeline, Jaker played a 68-run innings off 114 balls. Towhid also looked calm and composed. Hridoy completed his fifty off 85 balls. The partnership between both batters is the highest sixth-wicket stand for Bangladesh in ODIs.

Hridoy struck his maiden ODI ton after playing 114 balls. Jaker and Hridoy have received appreciation from cricket fans as they confronted India’s attack confidently to stabilise their team in the contest. Riding on their batting efforts, Bangladesh posted more than 228 runs on the board in 49.4 overs.

Mohammed Shami scripts history

Mohammed Shami has broken into record books for picking up 200 ODI wickets for India. Jaker Ali became the pacer’s 200th ODI scalp. The veteran speedster has become the eighth Indian bowler to claim 200 wickets. He also shattered former India pacer and current Team India chief selector Ajit Agarakar’s record. Agarkar bagged his 200th ODI wicket in his 133rd innings while Shami hunted the same numbers of wickets in his 103rd innings.

Earlier, Shami gave an excellent start to India by delivering the scalps of Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan Miraz to hand the momentum in the initial stage of the game. He also received support from Harshit Rana and Axar Patel, who gave a headache to the Bangladesh.
