Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip are highly likely to be discharged from their duties as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to make changes in support staff before India’s crucial upcoming Test assignment against England. Days after Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as Team India head coach, Abhishek Nayar and former Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate also joined the side as assistant coaches. At the same time, former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel also filled Paras Mhambrey’s shoes as bowling coach.
Recently, Dainik Jagran published a report which revealed BCCI does not want to go ahead with the colossal support staff of the men’s side. The report claimed that the final decision will be taken in the upcoming meet scheduled in Guwahati on March 29. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir will be present in the meeting.
Ryan ten Doechate may become India’s fielding coach
According to the report, Doeschate might replace Dilip as the fielding coach of Team India. The presence of Sitanshu Kotak with the squad might conclude Nayar’s stint. Following 0-3 drubbing at the hands of New Zealand, the board appointed Kotak as batting coach. Earlier Kotak was associated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and A team.
In the last few months, India have performed brilliantly in limited-overs format but the team’s poor performances in red-ball cricket have emerged as a huge concern for the board. In the last eight Tests, India lost five games while winning only one against Australia at the Optus Stadium in November.
