Adam Zampa, the leg-spin bowler for Australia, suffered a cut on his face after swimming into the step in the pool, in the build-up to the ODI World Cup 2023 opener against India. The captain of the Australian cricket team Pat Cummins provided an update on the condition of the 31-year-old in the pre-match press conference, stating that he is just a little bit sore but all good for the October 8, Sunday’s match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The first round of matches in the round-robin stage of the ODI World Cup 2023 has seen New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa registering comfortable victories against their respective opponents. The defending champions England, Netherlands, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka will have their work cut out in the next round of matches to make progress on the points table of the flagship tournament.

As India versus Australia is the marquee match in the first round of the ODI World Cup 2023, both teams would want all their key players fit and ready to play. But, the injury to Adam Zampa is far from ideal as far as the Australian cricket team is concerned.

7Cricket, one of the major sporting broadcasters in Australia quoted Pat Cummins as saying about the Adam Zampa situation, “He swam into the pool wall apparently. He said he had his eyes closed and thought he was swimming in a straight line and swam into the step in the pool, so it looks impressive.”

The captain of Australia further said, as per OneCricket, “He’s all good, just a little bit sore, so had a pretty quiet week too.” The assurance from Pat Cummins about the improving condition of Adam Zampa is a good sign for the five-time champions in their quest to win the ODI World Cup trophy once more.
