Afghanistan is set to host Ireland for a one-off Test match that will be played in Abu Dhabi from February 28 to March 3. The two Test-playing nations will be meeting each other for only the second time in the longest format of cricket. Ireland was promoted to the Test-playing nations category in 2018 when they played against Pakistan in their first-ever Test match in history. Since then, they have played seven Tests with all results going against their favour.
Afghanistan also played their first Test back in 2018 against India in Bengaluru. Since then, they have played eight Tests, winning two and losing six. In their only previous encounter in Tests, Afghanistan had defeated Ireland by seven wickets in Dehradun, where Rahmat Shah scored gruelling half-centuries in both innings.
