During the first day of the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Rishabh Pant, the Indian wicket-keeper batter, copped a blow in the groin area off an Australian pacer in the first innings. Moments later, Virat Kohli and debutant Harshit Rana were spotted in the Indian dressing room laughing uncontrollably, seeing the funny side of a rather tough moment for their teammate in the middle at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
While Virat Kohli and Harshit Rana had fun at the expense of Rishabh Pant, who writhed in pain for a couple of minutes, the commentators Ravi Shastri and Wasim Akram, famously known as Shaz and Waz, kept joking about it on the Star Sports Hindi broadcast as well. In the presence of Akram, it was Shastri, who also remembered a similar incident involving a West Indies player from his playing days, which kept the fun environment going in the commentary box.

Ye saare haste kyun hain jab yaha ball lagta hai?: Wasim Akram asks Ravi Shastri
The official X account of Star Sports posted the clip of Ravi Shastri and Wasim Akram’s hilarious discussion after Rishabh Pant took a blow in the groin area. Akram asked Shastri, “Ye saare haste kyun hain jab yaha ball lagta hai? (I don't know why they laugh when a player gets hit there [in the groin area]),” and in response, Shastri remarked, “Courtney Walsh ka mujhe yaad hai jab unko aise jagah pe laga, toh saare West Indian hans rahe thae (I remember when Courtney Walsh got hit there, then all the West Indies players were laughing).”
Moreover, in the Indian first innings, the Australian fast bowlers wreaked havoc, bundling them out for just 150 runs within 50 overs with Josh Hazlewood picking up four wickets. For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy top scored with 41 runs in 59 balls, batting with the lower order for majority of his innings, while Rishabh Pant got 37 runs in 78 balls, to ensure that India weren’t dismissed before reaching a three-figure total.
In their bowling effort, captain Jasprit Bumrah led the way for India with his four wickets, to reduce Australia to 67/7 in 27 overs at the close of play on day one.
