Afghanistan will be making their seventh straight appearance in the T20 World Cup after playing in the tournament for the first time in 2010. They will be looking to reach the knockout stage in this ICC tournament for the first time in history after their best finish in previous editions has been a second round appearance on three separate occasions.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have been the settled T20I opening pair for Afghanistan for the last couple of years. Gurbaz is known to give some early impetus to the Afghan innings with some power hitting in the powerplay and beyond, while Zadran accumulates runs at a steady pace, focusing on batting long.
