On Monday, February 19, match-fixing allegations were levelled at the Delhi Football League after Ahbab FC players conceded two dubious-looking late goals against Rangers FC after leading by four goals. After Delhi FC owner Ranjit Bajaj shared the video of the match, alleging match-fixing, following which the AIFF chief Kalyan Chaubey spoke about “continuous investigation” to the contrary.
In one of the videos from the contest, when Ahbab FC were leading with a comfortable scoreline late on, their players were seen passing the ball in their area with no real pressure from Rangers FC players. It led to one of the Ahbab FC players eventually managing to find the back of the net with their goalkeeper motionless when the ball went past him.
The second video had an Ahbab FC player blatantly kicking the ball in the back of the net with their goalkeeper standing far away from his goalpost. Alongside sharing the videos, Ranjit Bajaj wrote at length about the incident on X, the excerpts of it read, “I can guarantee that fixing is rampant in the @FootballDelhi senior premier division- that’s why we true to play In it ever again till they take action- I have been saying it again and again- the most corrupt league In the country - @ILeague_aiff”.
In one of his other posts on X, he also spoke about how the main partner of the Delhi Soccer Association was a betting company.
The President of All Indian Football Federation (AIFF), Kalyan Chaubey, took cognizance of the incident and said on X, “We’ve been made aware of videos circulating on SM, raising serious suspicion on the Delhi Premier League. Prima facie, it’s very concerning. Past few months we’ve been collecting hard evidence on suspicious matches with continuous investigation to eliminate such instances fm #IndianFootball”.
