After the recent accusations of physical assault by two female footballers on the AIFF’s executive committee member Deepak Sharma, the Union Sports and Youth Affairs minister Anurag Thakur has claimed that the ministry is taking serious note of physical assault on women footballers by HPFA general secretary.

Earlier, the two female footballers, who are part of the Khad FC had accused Himachal Pradesh Football Association’s general secretary Deepak Sharma of physically assaulting them in a hotel room in Goa under the influence of Alcohol. The footballers currently are in Goa to participate in the inaugural edition of Indian Women’s League 2.

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey has constituted a new three-member committee to investigate the alleged assault on Khad FC women footballers in the ongoing IWL2 by AIFF’s executive committee member Deepak Sharma.

Taking note of the situation, the Union minister said, “All India Football Federation has been directed to take quick action and ensure the safety and security of footballers.” he further added, “The ministry has directed AIFF to take strong legal action and inform the ministry about actions taken.” He also insisted that the security and safety of players are of utmost priority to the central government.

The accused was drunk when he entered the room of girls

The two victims, who were identified as Palak Verma and Ritika Thakur, said in their complaint that Deepak was in a state of drunk when he entered their room. He had also slapped the players after getting offended by them.

In their complaint, they also mentioned that football’s governing body members had been drinking alcohol continuously in front of the players since they had left Himachal.

According to NDTV, Palak Verma said, "I didn't have my dinner so chose to boil eggs and eat which didn't go well with Sir (Deepak Sharma), he was in a drunken state. My roommate was topless in the room and he didn't even care to knock the door. As soon as he came in he started thrashing me."
