The opening lap of the 2022 British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit saw a massive crash that involved Zhou Guanyu, George Russell and Pierre Gasly. This accident led to Zhou barrel-rolling out of the race while catching Alex Albon in the process. Zhou and Russell were both seen in the medical centre and were declared fit.
But Alex Albon was moved to the Coventry Hospital by helicopter for “precautionary checks”. However, he was later discharged on Sunday evening. Albon took to Twitter and updated about his health and his custom ‘Albon Pets’ helmet which he used during the race.
Albon tweeted, “All ok, the pets are ok,” wrote Albon on Twitter – referring to his custom ‘Albon Pets’ helmet for the race. “But more importantly I’m glad @ZhouGuanyu24 is ok! Thank you to the medical staff and for all the messages. Eyes already on Austria.”
Similarly, Team Principal Jost Capito also talked about Alex Albon’s health in a video posted on the Williams’ website. He said, “Just got very good news from the hospital that Alex is fine. He’s released and he can go home and relax and get ready for next weekend. Unfortunately, his race was over before the first corner – and I think it could have been quite a good race for him.”
Unfortunately, we didn’t have the basic pace in the end: Latifi
But apart from the accident, Williams had a positive weekend in their home Grand Prix as their second driver Nicolas Latifi qualified 10th on the grid and ended the race in 12th place. The Candian driver talked about the difficulty with an inferior car.
He said, “From Lap 1 we were always fighting an uphill battle. At the beginning, I was surprised at how much I could stay with the cars ahead but in reality, there was a little DRS train that was keeping me there because the cars behind were much quicker. It felt really nice to be properly racing in the pack. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the basic pace in the end alongside managing the car towards the end of the race."
