Team India’s Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has been getting flak from all corners after he failed to make a mark as captain in the ongoing five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series. Although, Rohit Sharma was not available for the opening Test in Perth, which India won under Jasprit Bumrah’s captaincy, by dominating 295 runs.

However, since then, the side has failed to make a mark as a collective unit, losing the Adelaide Test by 10 wickets, followed by drawing the Brisbane Test with Australia dominating majority of the sessions. Till the third Test, Indian pacer spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has done exceptionally well, being the only bright spot in the Indian side.

He’ll do a very good job: Allan Border backs Bumrah to flourish as skipper

With Bumrah on fire in the ongoing BGT 2024-25, legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border feels that the pacer has the potential to shine as skipper of the side. When asked of the same, Allan Border told TOI, “He’ll do a very good job. In Perth, he used himself properly. Captaincy-wise, the way he set the fields, you couldn’t fault him.”

“Bumrah, these days, is on that pedestal. His wrists, his release points are different to other bowlers. Because of that hyperextension, he’s releasing the ball a foot further down than other bowlers. He’s got a unique shuffling run-up, and then the snap of these wrists, he’s amazing. Being different, plus having that skill, it’s a whole different level of difficulty for the batsman,” he added.

It is to be noted that Jasprit Bumrah is currently the leading wicket-taker in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series. In the three Tests so far, Bumrah has scalped 21 wickets at an economy of 2.60. While he shone in the first Test, picking a five-wicket haul, he also took a six-wicket haul in the third Test, taking India to draw the Brisbane Test.
