Manchester United legend David Beckham took dig at Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho after Manchester City registered a thrilling 2-1 win in the Manchester derby. On Sunday, United clashed against arch-rivals, where Ruben Amorim’s side pulled off a remarkable win at the Etihad Stadium. After the game, English legend David Beckham praised United players who show a genuine desire to don the club jersey. However, with this, he also took a subtle dig at two players who were dropped from the squad.
Before the match, the Portuguese manager stated “training performance, game performances and engagement with team-mates” the main reason behind their snub. Moreover, the former footballer also appeared to take a dig at them. He took to Instagram and posted an image of Amad Diallo celebrating his decisive goal. He accompanied the image with the caption, "And the rebuild begins. Big win. Big win with players who wanna wear this jersey.”
Don't know about their long-term future but what's really clear..: Gary Neville on Ruben Amorim
Not only this, but former United star Gary Neville also commented on Amoim for his stance on maintaining high standards of the team. He told Sky Sports, “I don’t know about their long-term future. But what is really clear is that [Amorim] mentioned engaging with teammates, he’s mentioned standards. It’s standard in training and he’s thought, ‘No, I’m not having it, I’m not accepting it’. Good on him.”
He added, “For far too long we’ve seen players mope around that pitch and still continue to get a game or on the bench. No. It’s got to be non-negotiable. If you don’t give your all in your job, you’re gone, you’re out. That’s it.” Speaking about Rashford and Garnacho’s snub, he said, “I want Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to come back stronger, take the message that they’ve been given by training at the training ground this morning on a Sunday with no one else there. I want them to take this in the right spirit and become the very best players for Manchester United.”
