The Pat Cummins-led Australia went onto lift their sixth World Cup title, beating India by six wickets in a thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. While the Aussies entered the final with eight wins in a row, the hosts, Team India were riding on a 10-match unbeaten streak, which eventually ended not in their favour.

But days after Australia’s World Cup win, head coach, Andrew McDonald revealed the intense chat which took place after the world champions lost two games in the World Cup on the trot. Talking about it, McDonald revealed that the team was never panicked and no one blamed in the dressing room.

“There was a get-together post-game (after the South Africa loss). But once again, that was really just to reinforce that we were on the right path. It was about, ‘Let’s stick to it and believe in what we’ve set out to achieve’, and that it will come to fruition eventually, albeit it didn’t in the first couple of game,” Andrew McDonald said while talking to SEN Whateley.

“I think we’ve had moments like that when we were 0-2 in India in the Test series as well and you bring the group together and it’s really just reiterating what you set out in the first place. If you start to pivot at that point in time, I think that can create panic within a group. It also means that potentially your planning has been well off and at 0-2 in a nine-match World Cup and it’s not the time to start throwing the baby out with the bath water. It was just a time to say, ‘Ok, let’ get moving’,” he further added.

Australia make changes in T20I squad

The team from Down Under are currently taking on India in a five-match T20I series in India. While India won two games to go 2-0 up, the two sides will take on each other at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on November 28. Ahead of the third T20I, Australia named departure of six World Cup winning players, with Travis Head being the sole player along with travelling reserve Tanveer Sangha in the squad for the remainder of the series.
