Andy Murray, the British tennis star, has opted out of playing men’s singles at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which is the final career tournament before taking a retirement. The 37-year-old will only be playing alongside Dan Evans in the men’s doubles event in Paris, marking the end of his illustrious tennis career in the next fortnight or so.
Notably, Andy Murray had initially entered his name in both men’s singles and men’s doubles events, but he ultimately chose to focus on partnering up with Dan Evans. With that, the final singles match of the Briton’s career came against Jordan Thompsan in the second round of the Queen’s last month, which ended with him retiring due to a back injury.

The Olympics has been incredibly special for me: Andy Murray
During the tennis draw of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games, Andy Murray was quoted as saying, as per the BBC, “The Olympics has been incredibly special for me and there have been some amazing memories on the court – particularly in London.”
“I'm happy I get to do this one more time. It's unfortunate [not playing in singles] - I trained to get ready to play both, but I'm getting a bit older now so it gets harder to recover from injuries. I ran out of time,” he added.
Andy Murray is a two-time gold medallist at the Olympic Games in men’s singles, winning the title at the London 2012 and Rio 2016. He has also won a mixed doubles silver medal 12 years ago alongside Laura Robson.
