Argentina footballing icon Angel Di Maria announced his plans to draw curtains on his career with the national side after the 2024 Copa America on October 17, Tuesday. The World Cup winner isn’t a part of Argentina's squad for this week’s CONMEBOL qualifiers due to an injury. Maria played a crucial role in Argentina’s win in the Copa America 2021 and World Cup 2022, where they defeated Brazil and France, respectively. He has received 134 international caps thus far, where he scored 29 goals.

The 35-year-old was in a conversation with Urbana Play 104.3, where he announced plans to call it quits on his career with the national side. Di Maria said, "I will leave the Argentina national team after the Copa America. It's over for me, it will be the last tournament.” It is to be noted that Copa America will be held between June 20 and July 14 in 2024 in the USA.
The winger has also had an illustrious career with several clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. Apart from the World Cup and Copa America titles, the footballer has also won the gold medal in Beijing 2008 with Argentina and the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2007.

Speaking about what he told Argentina captain Lionel Messi before leaving the PSG, Maria informed Todo Pasa, "I will leave the Argentina national team after Copa America — it’s over for me. I hugged Messi at PSG and told him: the only thing I'm grateful for is to have been able to play with you in a club, to be able to see you every day."
