Edwards was handed the fine by Joe Dumars, the NBA Chief of Operations after the player made comments on officials as the Timberwolves registered a 107-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in a Monday matchup.
Edwards scored 27 points in the night, which the Thuder coach Mark Daigneual described as an ‘elevated game’ for its intensity. The game had 24 lead changes and six ties. After the match, Edwards said, “I think it was a great game. Great effort by both teams. Great job by both coaches. I feel like we just made more plays down the stretch.” The night saw Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points and 10 rebounds, with Rudy Gobert finishing at 12 points and 17 rebounds.

According to a statement released by the NBA, “Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been fined $40,000 for repeatedly publicly criticizing the officiating, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. Edwards made his comments postgame following the Timberwolves’ 107-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 29 at Paycom Center.”
Reacting to the fine, the player told Bally Sports North, “I’m going to take the fine because the refs did not give us any calls tonight. We had to play through every bump, every grab. I don’t know, I don’t know how we won tonight.”
