Former cricketer Aqib Javed is reportedly set to be appointed as the new white-ball head coach of the Pakistan cricket team on a permanent basis ahead of their upcoming tour to Zimbabwe, which will begin on November 24. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are close to making a decision on giving the responsibility of the white-ball setup to the former fast bowler after preferring a local coach over an overseas one.

Notably, there have been a lot of changes to the coaching staff of Pakistan white-ball setup, starting with head coach Gary Kirsten tendering his resignation last month, which was accepted by the PCB. It led to Jason Gillespie, the head coach of the Pakistan Test team, being given the responsibility of coaching the white-ball team on an interim basis during the ongoing tour to Australia, which saw Pakistan winning the ODI series 2-1 before conceding the T20I series with a game still to play.

Aqib Javed is already a part of PCB's selection committee

According to the report from Geo Super in Pakistan, Aqib Javed, who is a part of the PCB’s selection committee, is all set to take over the head coach role of the white-ball team on a permanent basis. His appointment will come after the interim head coach Jason Gillespie’s unwillingness to take over the role on a full-time basis due to lack of time available to spend with his family.

In his latest interview to an Australian news outlet, Jason Gillespie addressed the rumours surrounding him potentially taking up the white-ball coaching role of Pakistan on a full-time basis, and remarked, “I’ve only taken over white-ball format coaching on an interim basis. I am not keen on coaching permanently in the white ball format at the moment. I did not apply for the full-time white-ball coaching. I love coaching, but I don’t believe I can spend 11 months away from home. I also don’t think I could mentally handle it.”
