On Wednesday, September 18, AS Roma sacked their manager Daniele de Rossi just after four matches into the new Serie A season, winning none of it. The decision from the Italian club came after Daniele de Rossi’s team drew their previous Serie A match against Genoa 1-1 at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris on the weekend, finding themselves in 16th place in the Serie A, and in their statement, AS Roma thanked the 41-year-old for his work since joining them in January of this year.
Notably, the nine-month long tenure of Daniele de Rossi started on a bright note when AS Roma picked up 26 points in their first 11 matches, losing only one, to take them in fifth place from ninth place in the Serie A standings. The Italian club eventually finished in sixth place in the league, while they also made it through to the semi-final stage of the UEFA Europa League, where they lost to Bayer Leverkusen.

The statement from AS Roma about sacking Daniele de Rossi was about taking the club to a higher level, which wasn’t quite happening at the start of the ongoing 2024-25 season. It read, “The club's decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages. A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.”
Moreover, AS Roma, who have also qualified through to the UEFA Europa League 2024-25 season, which is slated to begin on September 25, under a new format, might be playing in it without a full-time manager since the replacement for Daniele de Rossi is yet to be appointed. Although, the Italian manager had signed the top goal-scorer from La Liga, Artem Dovbyk from Girona, along with Mats Hummels on a free transfer, to bolster the AS Roma squad after exits of Chris Smalling, Tammy Abraham, and Romelu Lukaku.
