Italian club AS Roma sacked manager Jose Mourinho amidst a poor 2023-24 season so far. Mourinho joined Roma in May 2021 and led the Giallorossi to their first European trophy, the Conference League title in 2022. Then the Portuguese manager also took Roma to the Europa League final last season which ended as a 1-4 loss on penalties.

But since then the Giallorossi have failed to replicate their form this season as they remain ninth on the Serie A table with a record of eight wins, five draws and seven losses. Mourinho's departure was all but destined following Roma's defeat to AC Milan over the weekend.
Addressing this development, AS Roma released a statement on their website confirming that Mourinho and his staff will leave the club with immediate effect. The statement said, “We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.”
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours,” the statement concluded.
Maybe we have reached rock bottom: Andrea Belotti
AS Roma forward Andrea Belotti was quite brazen after the 3-1 loss against AC Milan. The Italian striker described the situation as rock bottom and expressed that the team could only go forward after the defeat. While speaking to the club's website, Belotti said, "We need to prepare meticulously for the Verona match as well as the other upcoming fixtures. Yes, maybe we have reached rock bottom, but we can’t go any lower. The only way is up."
