Sri Lanka won a thrilling contest against India by 6 wickets and almost eliminated India's  mathematical chances of playing the all important Asia Cup 2022 final game. After inviting India to bat first, Sri Lanka put the Indian team under pressure by picking early wickets of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. However, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's brilliant knock off 72 from 41 balls helped them to post a very good total of 173/8 on board. Among Lankan bowlers, Dilshan Madushanka was the star player by picking 3 wickets in that innings, while Chamika Karunaratne and Dasun Shanaka also picked 2 wickets each.

In reply, Sri Lanka started off brilliantly with a 97-run opening stand between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, which laid a solid foundation for them, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa and the Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka ensured they completed the formalities off chasing down 174 runs successfully. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin in the middle overs did put pressure on Sri Lankan batters by picking 4 wickets quickly, but unfortunately this effort from Indian bowlers wasn't enough to stop the Lankan lions from hunting down their target.
