Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 89 runs to stay alive in the Asia Cup 2023. After losing against Sri Lanka, the Bangla Tigers needed this win to stay in contention for the Super 4s stage of the tournament. For the Bangla Tigers,  Mehidy Hasan Miraz starred with a century and one wicket.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh got off to a brilliant start with Miraz and Mohammad Naim moving forward with a full head of steams. Naim got out at the score of 60 in 10 overs and Towhid Hridoy was dismissed on a duck but Miraz continued his stunning form to carry the Bangla Tigers forward. 

Soon the all-rounder stitched up a pivotal partnership with Najmul Hossain Shanto as the duo piled on 215 runs and scored crucial centuries. Miraz retired hurt at 113 while Shanto was dismissed at 104 after carrying Bangladesh to 278. Finishing off the first innings, veteran stars Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib-Al-Hasan helped Bangladesh post a massive target of 335 runs.

In the second innings, Afghanistan got off to a poor start after Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed at one. Ibrahim Zardan and Hashmatullah Shahid played two valuable fifties but the Bangladesh bowlers ran through the lower order to register a massive 89-run win.
