The Asia Cup 2023 which is currently underway its 16th edition across Pakistan and Sri Lanka will shift its base to Hambantota in Sri Lanka for the Super Four matches.  Earlier, there were reports that due to expected monsoon rains in Colombo, the organisers are reconsidering to move action to dry regions of Sri Lanka.  The reports suggested that Dambulla and Pallekele have come up with suitable alternatives to conduct the next stage games of the ongoing tournament.

However, as per the latest report by Indian journalist Abhishek Tripathi, a new alternative has come up. The report suggests that now the Super Four games will be hosted in Hambantota.  The ACC event is being played in a hybrid model as India refused to travel to Pakistan citing security issues. 

When the continental governing body finalised Sri Lanka to be the other venue, the SLC suggested picking Dambulla. However, the Sri Lankan capital was later finalised after broadcasters refused to travel to Dambulla. On Sunday, September 3, a report by the Indian Express said that the committee had been thinking of shifting to a new venue and the final call was expected to be made in a day or two. 

Speaking of the tournament, seven-time Asia Cup winners India took on Nepal in a rain-interrupted game on Monday, September 4. Batting first, Nepal posted a score of 230 in 48.2 overs. While India was batting at 17 runs without any loss, the game saw a 40-minute halt because of rain.
