The 2023 edition of the Asia Cup has reached a crucial stage with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India going further into the Super Fours after finishing top two in their respective groups. But as the business end nears, the fight for the final spot only remains between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While India sealed their place in the final after a 41-run win over the defending champions, Bangladesh were knocked out.

However, the Shakib Al Hasan-led side is out of the tournament, they will next feature in their final match, set to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, 15th September. But ahead of this clash, the Bangla Tigers have been jolted with a major blow as they will miss veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim.
The 36-year-old will join his wife to be with his newborn child back home. The veteran cricketer has been granted an extension of leave by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to be with his newborn and the family.
The Bangladesh cricketer took to social media to share an update on the birth of the newborn. “Assalamualaikum all… Alhamdulillah Almighty Allah bless us with a baby girl… Both mother and baby under observations.. please pray for us,” he captioned the post which also has a picture of his son holding a banner which read, “It’s a girl”.
Talking about the Asia Cup Super 4s points table, while India sit at the top having qualified for the final for the 11th time, Sri Lanka are placed second with two points, levelling with Pakistan, who are third with a comparatively lower NRR.
