Indian athlete Ancy Sojan Edappilly clinched the silver medal in the women's long jump final at the Asian Games 2023. India's other competitor in the event, Shaili Singh, finished fifth  at the event with a best attempt of  6.38 m . Winning the event, Shiqi Xiong took the gold with a personal best of 6.74 m.

Edappilly started with a  6.13 m jump and registered distances of  6.49 m and  6.56 m in her second and third attempts. Then, in her fourth and fifth attempts, Edappilly had distances of 6.30 m and 6.63 m. Rounding off her performance,  Ancy  had a failed result.

Talking about Shaili Singh's performance, the 19-year-old started with her best attempt of  6.38 m and then registered jumps of  6.34 m,  6.15 m and  6.31 m. In the fifth attempt, Singh had a jump of 6.48 m and then concluded her event with a 6.23 m attempt.

In other athletics events, India's Pavithra Vengathesh finished sixth in the pole vault event with a best attempt of 4.00 m. Whereas, in the men's 200 m final, Amlan Borgohain finished sixth with a time of 20.98s.
