Parul Chaudhary has scripted history in the women’s 5000m final at the Asian Games 2023, to win yet another gold medal for India in the athletics, on October 3, Tuesday. At the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, the 28-year-old was involved in an epic battle with Ririka Hironaka of Japan, who she pipped in the last few metres of the race to secure the top step of the podium for herself.

In the 25 year timeline of the women’s 5000m event at the Asian Games, this was the first time an Indian woman managed to win the gold medal. Parul Chaudhary crossed the finish line to register the time of 15:14:75, ahead of the Japanese Ririka Hironaka (15:15:34 ), the silver medalist, while the bronze medal went to Caroline Chepkoech Kipkirui with season’s best timing of 15:23:12.

Vithiya Ramraj wins bronze medal in women’s 400m hurdles

Vithiya Ramraj, the Indian track and field athlete, won the bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles final at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium on October 3, Tuesday. She clocked the time of 55.68 in the final, to find herself on the Asian Games 2023 podium, behind the Bahraini and Chinese athletes.

Notably, Vithiya Ramraj equalled the longstanding national record of PT Usha of 55.42 seconds in the women’s 400m hurdles in the heats at the Asian Games 2023. But, in the final, she couldn’t repeat the epic performance, staying behind Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya of Bahrain, who won the gold medal with the Asiad record of 54.45, closely followed by Jiadie Mo of China, the silver medalist, recording her season’s best with 55.01.
