Indian men’s team consisting of Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and Mithun Manjunath advanced into the semifinals at the ongoing Asian Games 2023. The India trio beat Nepal in the quarterfinals, 3-0 with all three registering win in their respective matches.

Notably, with this win in the quarters, the trio confirmed a medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. It is to be noted that this will be the first time the Indian team will win a medal at the Games in 37 years. The side had last won a medal, which was a bronze in Seoul 1986, which consisted of Prakash Padukone and Syed Modi.

Talking in detail of their respective games in the quarterfinals, Lakshya Sen beat Prince Dahal of Nepal in straight games 21-5, 21-8. In the second match, Kidambi Srikanth took down Sunil Josh 21-4, 21-13, followed by Mithun outplaying Bishnu Katuwal 21-2, 21-7 in 25 minutes to help the side advance into the semifinals.

The Indian men’s trio of Sen, Srikanth and Manjunath will now play the winner of quarterfinal fixture between Indonesia and Korea in the semifinals for the finals spot.
