The reigning two-time world champion from India, Nikhat Zareen confirmed her place in the semifinals of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 on Friday, 29 September. The Indian boxer also assured a medal finish at the ongoing continental event after a comfortable, one-sided match in the quarterfinals.

The 27-year-old boxer, who entered the tournament as favourite to clinch the gold medal, also earned the 2024 Paris Olympics quota after a win over Jordan’s Hanan Nassar in women’s 50kg quarterfinals. Notably, she also earned the first Olympics quota in boxing.

Earlier, the reigning champion won her opening bout 5-0 to advance into the round of 16. She came into the event earlier beating IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2023 runners-up Nguyen Thi Tham of Thailand.
