The Indian women’s football team ended their campaign at the 19th Asian Games as they slumped to Thailand in a must-win game. The Indians lost the game 0-1 on September 24, Sunday at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China. The only goal of the encounter came from Parichat Thongrong in the 58th minute of the match. With the defeat, it means that India, who currently stand at the 61st position in the FIFA rankings, will now finish at third spot in the Group B standings.

The Indian team lost their first match of the continental event to Chinese Taipei, and hence, they needed to win this match against Thailand. The defeating team came with the same sstarting XI from their previous match and got off to a weak start in the Sunday encounter.
As the game progressed, the Indian side slowly got back into the game; however, their forwards didn’t get ample opportunities to convert their chances into goals. On the other hand, the winners created several scoring opportunities, but the Indian goalkeeper Shreya Hooda saved crucial goals for the side.
Though the Indian team later got a few more scoring chances, they failed to open their account, and with this, the first half ended without any goal. In the second half, the Thai player Parichat Thongrong scored a brilliant goal by drilling the ball past the Indian custodian and made the tally look 1-0.
A few minutes down the game, the Indian footballers had the opportunity to equalise the score, but things didn’t get into favour of them. Despite trying hard, things didn’t get better for the Indians; it seemed it wasn’t their day at the tournament.
