The Indian women’s team won a historic bronze medal in the sepaktakraw regu event at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, after going down to Thailand in the semi-final by 10-21, 13-21, at the Jinhua Sports Centre Gymnasium Court 2, on October 6, Friday. This is the first medal for the Indian women in the sepaktakraw at the Asiad, while the men’s team won a bronze medal in the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta-Palembang in the regu event.

India were assured the medal in the women’s sepaktakraw regu event earlier, after Vietnam downed China with a margin of 21-13, 19-21, 21-15 in the Preliminary Group A match. This victory helped the Indian women’s team qualify for the semi final of the competition alongside Vietnam from their group, who are slated to face South Korea in the other semi final.
Notably, in their first group match in the women’s sepaktakraw regu event, the Indian women’s team had lost to the highly fancied Vietnam with a margin of 16-21, 10-21. But, they bounced back to beat China by 8-21, 21-17, 21-15 in their second Preliminary Group A match of the competition, at the Asian Games 2023.
Meanwhile, in the other semi final, Vietnam defeated South Korea in a comfortable manner by 21-9, 21-7 to reach the grand finale of the women’s sepaktakraw regu event. They will play against Thailand in the gold medal match of the competition at the Asian Games 2023 on October 7, Saturday.
