India currently stands at fourth place with 32 medals under their cap at the ongoing Asian Games 2023. On Friday, 29th September another Indian athlete grabbed the headlines after becoming the first to enter the quarterfinals of the event. Indian table tennis star Manika Batra advanced into the quarters of the women’s singles event at the Asian Games 2023.

The 28-year-old sealed her place in the last eight by defeating Thailand’s Suthasini Sawettabut 11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6 in the round of 16 in Hangzhou. With this win, Batra marked a historic achievement in the sports history in India. The Commonwealth Games gold medallist will next face World No. 3 Yidi Wang of China on Saturday, 30 September.

However, in the men’s table tennis event, the veteran duo of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost to China’s duo of Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin 0-3 (5-11, 4-11, 7-11). Although Manush Utpalbhai Shah and Manav Vikash Thakkar secured a hard-fought win over Singapore pair of Ywe En Koen Pang and Izaac Quek Yong 3-2. The pair of Manav and Manush will next play Korea’s Woojin Jang and Lim Jong-hoon.
