Indian captain Rohit Sharma heaped praises on vice-caption Jasprit Bumrah for his brilliant bowling in the ongoing BGT 2024-25 series. Ahead of the Melbourne Test, the Indian skipper, during the press conference, praised Jasprit for his confidence in his bowling skills. Bumrah contributed significantly to India's victory in the first test in Perth. He captained India in Rohit Sharma's absence, leading them to a stunning 295-run victory in the first test at Perth Stadium. He also shone with the ball, taking eight wickets in the test, including a fifer in the opening innings.
“It’s very easy not to say anything. He knows exactly what he’s doing, and how he operates is very plain and simple. He doesn’t try to complicate things with his own stuff and keeps it nice and simple. He’s got so much belief in his skillset that there’s not much discussion needed with him,” Rohit said about Bumrah in a pre-match presser in Melbourne. He is currently the highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets in the series with an average of 10.90.
It makes easier for me not to think much: Rohit Sharma on Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah played 43 Test matches and has 194 wickets in his kitty. Moreover, the pacer has an impressive track record against the Aussies, which is currently seen in the ongoing series. “I’ve been watching him for a long time and have captained him for a long time. So, I know what he’s trying to do. It makes it easier for me not to think too much while he’s bowling, only because he’s so clear in his mind. Whether he gets wickets or he doesn’t, he’s so confident and that in return gives me more confidence during the game and lets me know that there’s nothing much for me to add,” Rohit said.
Rohit further stated that having a player like Bumrah in the team takes away the workload for other bowlers. “When he’s at his best form, the jobs of the other bowlers also become easier, as all they need to do is to just try and maintain that pressure, to be honest. The impact that he’s had on the series so far has been massive, and I hope he continues to do that because these next two games are very important for us,” Rohit Sharma added further.
The series is tied at 1-1. The next Test of the ongoing series will kick off on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
