The Indian pair of tennis veterans Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale clinched gold in the mixed doubles event in the 19th Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, Republic of China. Bopanna and Bhosale recorded a notable come-from-behind victory on Saturday, September 30, as they took down their Chinese Taipei pair, the ninth-seeded Tsung-hao Huang and En-shuo Liang, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.

With their win, the tennis stars maintained India's streak of winning at least one gold in each of the six Asian Games hosted in this century. While this was Rutuja's maiden final, the gold comes as Bopanna's second Asiad gold after his 2018 Jakarta men's doubles stint.

The yellow metal won by Bopanna-Bhosale duo is India's second tennis medal in the ongoing continental multi-sport event after the pair Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni won silver in men's doubles. The Indian duo had lost the final to Chinese Taipei pair of Jason Jung and Yu-hsiou Hsu.

Not only this, but this was India's third gold medal in mixed doubles at the Asiad after Leander Paes and Sania Mirza won at Doha 2006 while Sania and Myneni finished at the podium top at Incheon 2014.
