The highly-anticipated five-match Test series, also known as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in underway down under with the first Test kicking off on Friday, November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth. With the World Test Championship (WTC) points and position at stake, both India as well as Australia will be eager to claim to trophy.

Although, India will eye to complete a hat-trick of wins down under and continue their winning run in the prized trophy, Australia on the other hand will aim to put an end to India’s winning streak. For the unversed, Jasprit Bumrah-led Team India won the toss early on Day 1 at the Perth Stadium and opted to put the score first on the board. The side were restricted at 150 in 49.4 overs, but put up a show with the ball to keep them in the hunt.

Jasprit Bumrah completes 11th five-wicket haul to put India on top in first Test

Speaking of the opening Test, after being bowled out for 150 on Day 1 of the ongoing Test match, Indian bowlers put a great spell with the ball, courtesy a five-wicket haul from pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. After restricting Australia to 67/7 at stumps on Day 1, Jasprit Bumrah striked early on Day 2 to complete his 11th five-wicket haul. 

Bowling the first delivery on Day 2 of the first Test, Bumrah gave India an early breakthrough with the help of Rishabh Pant, who completed a regulation catch to dismiss Alex Carey. With this Australia suffered a huge dent. After Carey’s dismissal, Harshit Rana then went onto dismiss Nathan Layon, clinching his second wicket on Test debut. 

After 40 overs, Australia’s scoreboard read 94/9 with the hosts trailing by 56 runs. Mitchell Starc (19 off 59) and Josh Hazlewood (5 off 15) have led the charge for Australia in the middle at the time of writing. On the other hand, while Bumrah has led from the front, scalping five wickets, Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana so far had claimed two wickets a piece.
