The Australian batter, Marnus Labuschagne, took to Instagram to announce that he is retiring the bat which he used to win the ODI World Cup 2023. During the grand finale last year against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the 30-year-old scored an unbeaten fifty for Australia, to take his team over the fine for a famous victory.
The ODI World Cup 2023 final saw India post a below par total of 240 runs in their allotted overs after getting bundled out on the last ball of the innings. In the run chase, Australia lost three early wickets, finding themselves in some trouble until Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne stitched together a 192-run stand for the fourth wicket, to put his team on the brink of a big win.
Marnus Labuschagne stayed not out on 58 off 110 balls with just four fours in the innings, to secure the sixth ODI World Cup title for Australia. The bat Marnus Labuschagne used in the final of the last year’s tournament is now completely worn out with wood splices sticking out of the centre of the bat, in the picture shared by him on his official Instagram account.
He also captioned his latest social media post, “Think it’s finally time to retire the World Cup final bat.”
During the ODI World Cup 2023, Marnus Labuschagne scored 362 runs from ten innings. He accumulated those runs at an average of 40.22 and a strike rate of 70.70 with three fifties.
