India head coach Rahul Dravid on Saturday (3 September) gave an update on fast bowler Avesh Khan, who is unwell due to fever, and missed the practice sessions ahead of the high-octane clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022.

The 49-year-old added that the doctors will be tracking Avesh's health in the due course of time, and then will update the team management about his participation in the latter part of the tournament.

“Avesh is feeling a little bit unwell, just been under the favour, a little bit of fever, doctors are managing the situation, he is not at practice today hopefully he is not too serious and should be okay for tomorrow’s game (against PAK), if not, then later part of the tournament," Rahul said in the pre-match press conference.

Talking about Avesh's performance in the ongoing tournament, the 25-year-old has scalped only two wickets in as many games at an economy of 12.

However, he still is an important cog of the team in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. If his health does not see an improvement, the standby pacer Deepak Chahar can also be included in the Indian squad.

Hasan Ali set to feature in IND vs PAK

Along with India, some unfortunate news also arrived for Pakistan fans on Saturday. The young pacer Shahnawaz Dahani was ruled out of the clash against India due to a side strain he sustained in the match against Hong Kong.

Following this setback, the total injury concerns have amounted to 3 for the Pakistan team, with pacers Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim already unavailable for the rest of the tournament.

The experienced pacer Hasan Ali is expected to replace Dahani in the Playing XI against India and will look to use his experience and skills to a good effect.
