India’s Commonwealth Games silver medallist Avinash Sable finished sixth at the Silesia Diamond League 2023. The Indian athlete clocked a season best of 8:11.63 to finish at sixth place in the men’s steeplechase event in Chorzow, Poland. However, his effort of 8:11.63 kept him short of his personal best of 8:11.20.

The national record holder in men’s steeplechase, Avinash however qualified for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. His timing of 8:11.63 was enough to seal him a berth for the global event, set to take place next year in Paris. It is to be noted that the qualifying mark for the Paris Olympics in men’s steeplechase is 8:15.00.
The 28-year-old made his third Diamond League appearance in the ongoing season. He finished 10 th in the Rabat leg and then finished fifth at the Stockholm Diamond League. However, the one at the Silesia Diamond League 2023 was his best in the competition so far.
The reigning Olympic and world champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco won the race with a record timing of 8:03.16, followed by Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya who settled for a silver with a timing of 8:08.03. Kenya’s Leonard Bett finished third (8:09.45), followed by Ethiopia’s Abraham Sime (8:10.68) and Kenya’s Benjamin Kigen (8:11.12) completing the top five.
