Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi reportedly got into a heated argument in the dressing room. The alleged incident took place after the Men in Green’s exit from the Asia Cup 2023. Notably, Pakistan got slumped to reigning champions Sri Lanka in an exciting Super Fours match on Thursday, September 14. With the win, Sri Lanka made it to the final of the tournament ensuring Pakistan’s entry to top two.
According to reports by Bolnews, the Pakistan skipper was furious over his side for not giving their absolute best in the game against the Bengal Tigers. However, the star pacer didn’t like the remark and intervened to tell Babar that at least he should appreciate the boys for doing well with bat and ball. Azam clearly didn’t like the intervention and went on to say that he is aware of who performed well and who didn’t.
However, before things could heat up more, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan intervened and calmed his teammates down. After their exit from the continental showpiece, Afridi, who was in his absolute best in the tournament took to Twitter to express his disappointment.
He wrote, “Disappointed with how it finished but this is not the end. We never gave up and fought all the way, and this fighting spirit should not go down. There is a bigger challenge coming our way and we will be better prepared for it In shaa'Allah. Pakistan Zindabad” .
It is to be noted that Dasun Shanaka-led boys defeated Pakistan by two wickets to book their spot in the finale of the ACC event. They will lock horns with India in a highly anticipated clash on September 17, Sunday in Colombo.
