After getting a red card during the La Liga fixture against Real Betis, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has been handed a two-match ban. With that, Flick will miss Barcelona’s upcoming matches against Atletico Madrid and Leganés in La Liga. According to the referee, Flick came out of his technical area shouting and protesting his decision, for which the red card was shown to him.
Notably, Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw by Real Betis at Benito Villamarín Stadium in Seville on December 7. Hansi Flick will now face a two-match touchline ban, and will be missing from the dugout for the next couple of games in the league. He will be returning to the dugout in Barcelona’s league fixture against Getafe at Coliseum Stadium in Spain on January 19, 2025.
I am disappointed by the sending off: Hansi Flick after Barcelona’s fixture against Real Betis
Hansi Flick was sent off in the 66th minute of the La Liga fixture against Real Betis after his reaction to a penalty awarded to the oppostion. The referee stated that Flick left the technical area while shouting and gesticulating. However, after the match, Flick said “I am disappointed by the sending-off,” as quoted in The Athletic. “I did not say anything to anyone, it (what I did on the touchline) was just a reaction to myself. I thought it took a very long time for VAR to decide if that was a penalty,” he further added.
Barcelona will now face Leganes in their upcoming fixture of the La Liga at Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona on December 16. They are currently at the top of the points table in the ongoing season with 12 wins in 17 matches, and losing just three matches in La Liga 2024-25.
