Barcelona and Xavi are looking to build on from the 2022-23 season when the Catalans won the La Liga after a three-year wait but their transfer window strategy had been hampered by the La Liga regulations. These rules prevented them from signing Lionel Messi who has now signed for the MLS club Inter Miami. President Joan Laporta now confirmed that the league has approved their viability plan and they will be able to register new signings.
While addressing the senators of FC Barcelona Laporta spoke about their current season and talked about their goals for the future. Laporta also touched upon the crucial issue of the wage bill which was highly reduced after the departures of Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, and Sergio Busquets.
As revealed by SPORT, the president first commented on the sporting situation and the ambition for next season. Laporta said, "We have achieved the goal but we want more. Me, the first one. We are demanding, we are running the best club in the world. We work hard to reinforce the first team, we want to aspire to win everything and participate with high chances of winning in all competitions."
The 60-year-old then confirmed that the club will be able to register new players but admitted the situation is still difficult, and said, "We have reduced the wage bill but the value of the players has grown. We have a more competitive and rejuvenated workforce. We are on the right track. La Liga has approved the viability plan for the next two years. We will be able to register players."
The Barca president then refuted the Negreira allegations and said that the referee reports were a completely legal deal saying, "We have never taken any La Liga to get arbitration favors. There is no illegal action. It was made in a clear and transparent way, with the corresponding invoices, payments via bank transfer and reflected in the books. There has never been a desire to hide anything."
Laporta then mentioned the Espai Barca project and praised the new stadium and praised the Women’s team who won the UEFA Women’s Champions League earlier this month. Barcelona are yet to officially sign any player this summer but are heavily linked to Brazillian youngster Vitor Roque and Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
