During match 34 of the European Cricket Series Austria T10, a peculiar incident happened as Mehar Cheema of Indian CC Vienna shattered his bat on impact from the ball delivered by Junaid Syed of Vienna CC. At the Seebarn Cricket Ground in the city of Vienna, the moment was captured live to the sheer amusement of commentators and players alike.
On May 14, in pursuit of the 100-run target in their allotted 10 overs, Indian CC Vienna were at 64-1 with Mehar Cheema and his non-striker teammate Ahmad Ghani were in the midst of a very good partnership. On the fifth ball of the seventh over, when Cheema took a big swipe at the delivery from Syed, little did he know that his bat would get broken into two pieces. But still, he had the presence of mind to call Ghani for a single as the ball trickled towards the long-on region.

Over the years, the European Cricket Series has been known for its eccentric and sometimes downright outrageous moments on the cricket field. The incident involving Mehar Cheema’s broken bat might not be the most talked about, but still, it is quite unique to say the least.
Notably, the matchup between two of the Vienna sides ended up being a last over thriller which was won by Indian CC Vienna by 8 wickets. With this decent win, they moved up in the top half, while Vienna CC stayed at the bottom half of the ECS Austria T10 points table.
