Manchester United have reportedly made a double offer to sign defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, but the exact amount of their bid wasn’t revealed. But then, the German club swiftly rejected the bid, informing Manchester United about improving their offer if they wanted to sign the pair in the ongoing transfer window.
After signing the centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille for a whopping sum of money over €62 million, Manchester United are actively pursuing a few top players to bolster their defence further. With the personal terms not being an issue, the English club made the doubler offer for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Bayern Munich, as per the report from David Ornstein.
When the German club rejected the bid from Manchester United due to its lesser value, it caused bemusement in both player camps, represented by the agent Rafa Pimenta. Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have an understanding about being deemed surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich, which will allow them to leave.
Notably, Everton had deemed the Manchester United offer for defender Jarrad Branthwaite as “derisory” since it was quite low to their liking.
Moreover, for Manchester United to improve their offer to sign the two German club defenders, they will have to raise funds for it. Bayern Munich reportedly value Matthijs de Ligt over €50m, while Noussair Mazraoui can be signed for anything around €15m to €20m.
