The Rohit Sharma-led Team India on Saturday, June 29 finally ended their ICC trophy drought as they went on to lift the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean. The Indian cricket team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and mentorship of Rahul Dravid ended the 17-year-long wait of the T20 World Champions title as they defeated South Africa by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

This win proved to be vital for billions of Indian fans with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma announcing their last chapter in T20I career, along with Rahul Dravid, who ended his stint as Team India Head Coach. While the moment after India’s win would have been unimaginable for the players, it was nothing short for the fans and the billions of lives living in India.

With India proclaiming themselves as the T20 World Champions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday, June 30 announced a massive prize money for the winning side. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm INR 125 Crore prize money for the Men in Blue. 

"I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement! 🏆🇮🇳,” Jay Shah posted on X.

Speaking of the Rohit Sharma-led Team India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024, they remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. They finished at the top of the Group A standings in the group stage of the tournament and then went on to continue their dominant run with a top-of-the-table finish in the Super 8 Group 1. Entering the semifinals on the back of an unbeaten run, the Men in Blue defeated England and they beat South Africa to lift the title.
