The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are reportedly considering the option of hosting the IPL 2025 mega auction in a city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Although there is no specific location agreed upon, the BCCI officials are looking to take the IPL 2025 mega auction to either Riyadh or Jeddah, the two of the biggest cities in Saudi Arabia, while Dubai, the UAE, is also an option for the highly anticipated event.

Notably, the BCCI has found it difficult to get an appropriate venue or a hotel to host the IPL 2025 mega auction, according to the report from Cricbuzz. They are planning to organise the auction in the last week of November, and the higher costs of bringing the event to Saudi Arabia in comparison to the UAE, where the last auction took place, is making them think twice about finalising everything.

London was reportedly in the initial shortlist to host the IPL 2025 mega auction

In recent times, London was reportedly in the initial shortlist to host the IPL 2025 mega auction, but the BCCI didn’t go through with the plan due to the cold weather expected in the last month of November in the English capital. Ultimately, the BCCI are interested in a place to host the auction for a two-day period while accommodating all the concerned parties, including the franchise officials and the members of Jio and Disney Star, the two broadcasters of the IPL.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, all the 10 IPL teams will be needing to submit the list of players to retain, which could include a maximum of six placers. The retention rules of the IPL 2025 were recently released by the BCCI in which the most contentious rule was the option to retain a former international cricketer as an uncapped player after he had announced his retirement five years ago.

With the excitement of the IPL continuing to build ahead of its 2025 season, the fans are interested in the names of the players their favourite team will retain before the mega auction.
