The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly extended the deadline for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchises to submit the retention list. According to reports quoting Cricbuzz, the Indian cricket board has extended the deadline to submit the retention lists to November 7.

Notably, the franchises were initially slated to submit the list of retained players by October 15, but on Tuesday, Cricbuzz informed that the date has been extended further ahead and the five teams are now set to share the final list by Thursday, November 7.

Speaking of the WPL squads, each teams can have a squad of 18 members, including six overseas signings. Similarly to the Indian Premier League (IPL), each franchise can release players every year. Ahead of the WPL 2025, the BCCI is mulling to host a mini-auction, however a clarity on the same is still awaited from the board. 

Moreover, several reports have also revealed that WPL might see a mega-auction after the completion of its third edition and a new team could also make its entry into the tournament. Although a clarity on all these details is yet to be revealed, the cricket board has increased the auction purse for the third season from INR 13.5 Crore to INR 15 Crore. The dates for the WPL 2025 Player Auction are also set to be announced in the coming months with the IPL 2025 mega auction set to take place in November-December this year.
