After a 0-3 drubbing against New Zealand in the three-match Test series at home, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently hosted a six-hour long review meeting to reflect on the performances as well as concerns in the Indian camp. According to reports, the six-hour-long meeting, which involved Team India captain Rohit Sharma, along with Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and President Roger Binny, spoke on the aspects of team’s performance and the decision to put Indian spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah to rest in the final Test.

Moreover, if reports are to be believed there were also talks around Gautam Gambhir’s style of coaching and how it differs from that of former India Head Coach Rahul Dravid, along with the struggles the team has been facing adjusting to the new approach.

BCCI holds six-hour review meeting after New Zealand series whitewash: Reports

Furthermore, in the meeting, the core group also discussed and expressed concerns about resting India vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, especially in a match which offered a turning wicket. “Yes, there was nearly a six-hour meeting between BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Apart from the maiden Test series defeat to the Kiwis was reviewed, there was also a lot of brainstorming on how to prepare in the best possible manner for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series in Australia,” a source confirmed, as quoted by TOI.

“It appears the selectors were informed about Bumrah’s sudden exit before the Test, and this communication gap was highlighted to BCCI leadership. There needs to be better communication all around. All must on the same page,” the source further informed. Additionally, the selection of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana was also questioned, each of them having limited experience in the Ranji Trophy.

It is to be noted that the meeting was a necessary step with India next traveling to Australia for the highly-anticipated five-match Test series. “India are going on a tour of Australia, and the BCCI would obviously like to ensure that the team is back on track,” the source further added. The Men in Blue will leave for Australia on Sunday, November 10 for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first Test is scheduled to kickoff on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth, followed by a match each in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
