Abrar Ahmed was confronted by a female fan for the famous Shubman Gill send-off during Pakistan’s second ODI game against New Zealand at Seddon Park on April 2. During the Champions Trophy 2025 high-octane clash between India and Pakistan, the spinner cleaned up Gill and alluded with his eyes to show the India opener the way to the pavilion. Abrar’s act became popular on social media but former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram expressed displeasure as the legend felt it wasn’t the ideal moment to celebrate the wicket. The match ended in India’s favour by six wickets but Abrar recorded fine figures with the ball (1/28 in 10 overs).
Several days after the blockbuster game, a video has emerged on social media, in which a female was seen asking the 26-year-old, "Shubman Gill ko kya ishare kar raha tha (What were you signaling to Shubman Gill?)” The clip was of the second ODI match between New Zealand and Pakistan in Hamilton where the visiting side didn’t include Abrar in their playing XI.
New Zealand take unassailable lead of 2-0 in ODI series vs Pakistan
After the Champions Trophy 2025 debacle, Pakistan’s struggle in white-ball cricket continued in New Zealand as they failed to play competitive cricket against the Kiwis in both T20 International (T20I) and One-Day International (ODI) series. After recording a 4-1 win in the T20I series, the Black Caps discomfited the Men in Green in the ODI affair as well.
In the second ODI, New Zealand claimed an 84-run triumph and sealed the series by a margin of 2-0. Chasing the target of 293, the Men in Green looked helpless against the pacers Jacob Duffy and Ben Sears. Duffy racked up 3/35 figures in his eight overs while Sears claimed the first fifer of his ODI career and got the player of the match award. Sears clinched 5/59 figures and played a pivotal role in his side’s one-sided victory.
