The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lost the gold tick verification badge on their official Twitter account, after changing their profile picture as part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new social media campaign on August 13, Sunday. The 72-year-old launched the “Har Ghar Tiranga” movement ahead of the 77th Independence Day of India on August 15, wherein he requested everyone to change their profile picture on various social media accounts to help deepen their bond with the country.

But, when BCCI put the picture of “Tiranga,” the Indian tricolour, in place of their logo on Twitter earlier today, to embrace the patriotic movement, it led to the governing body of cricket in India losing their gold tick verification. This sent the entire social media into a feeding frenzy, with some claiming that the organisation forgot to pay for the Twitter Blue subscription in time, leading to them losing their official status on the platform.

However, Twitter, under the new ownership of Elon Musk, brought revised guidelines of the platform, which was the actual reason for BCCI losing their gold tick verification badge temporarily, after changing their profile picture. But, they could have it reinstated once Twitter reviews their account to find that it has met their necessary criterias  to the contrary.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, sent out a tweet about his new social media campaign, on the morning of August 13, with the picture of Tiranga in his profile picture. It read, “In the spirit of the #HarGharTiranga movement, let us change the DP of our social media accounts and extend support to this unique effort which will deepen the bond between our beloved country and us.”

Meanwhile, Team India will be playing the fifth and final T20I of the series against West Indies at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill on August 13, Sunday. With the series tied at 2-2, the fans can expect a humdinger of a contest between two evenly-matched sides in the United States of America.
