Rohit Sharma, the Indian Test and ODI captain, revealed his desire to play the role of Sanjay Dutt’s character, Raghunath Namdev Shivalkar, from the famous movie “Vaastav: The Reality,” released in 1999. During a sit-down chat with Jatin Sapru from a few months, a clip of which has gone viral on Instagram today, Rohit Sharma was asked about which Bollywood character he would like to play, if an opportunity to act came along, to which he replied, “Sanjay Dutt, Vaastav.”

According to the listing for the movie “Vaastav: The Reality” on IMdb, it is about the “infamously corrupt nature of the Indian political system, as well as the functioning of society itself. ”  It puts the Mumbai underworld scene from the 1990s in prime focus wherein Raghu, the Sanjay Dutt character, finds himself in the centre of it after accidentally killing a man with his friend Chandrakant aka Dedh Footiya.

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, who relates with the movie due to its setting in Mumbai, where he has lived for most of his life, went on to state that Raghu from “Vaastav: The Reality” would be his favourite character to play on the silver screen. When Jatin Sapru requested Rohit Sharma to recite one of the dialogues of Raghu, he said, “Ae Maa,” in the trademark style and the swagger of the Sanjay Dutt character.

With the start of India’s busy period in international cricket fast approaching, Rohit Sharma has been sweating it out, preparing himself to lead the national team in 10 Test matches in the next few months. India will be taking on Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, with the first match slated to begin at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 onwards, where they will be look to win to get a step closer to reaching the third straight World Test Championship (WTC) final.
