With the 18th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) underway currently, there have been talks regarding Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s central contract player list for 2025-26. However, recent reports have added that the announcement of the central contracts has been postponed further.
However, an exact date for the meeting is still not revealed, the reports have also added that the England tour preparations meeting, which was scheduled to be held in Guwahati on March 29, is also been pushed back to a later date. While the IPL 2025 is set to be held until May 25, the England tour will commence from June 20 with the final Test set to be played from July 31 to August 4.
BCCI central contracts postponed; England tour meeting also pushed back to later date: Reports
As per a report from India Today, BCCI were set to meet with head coach Gautam Gambhir and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar to finalise the central contracts list for the upcoming season and the potential future Test captain. This comes after reports flooded adding that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja will retain their place in Grade A, but the stalwarts’ future in the longest format also remains to be questionable.
If reports are to be believed, the BCCI board members are also talking of Shreyas Iyer returning to the contract list after being snubed of a place last year. Another new name who is set for a contract is Varun Chakravarthy, who played a pivotal role in India’s ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 title win in Dubai.
While the central contracts remain at one place, the future of Test team is also an agenda to be thrown light on during the meeting. Availability of a few players and the future in the longest format for a few players will also be discussed in the meeting with the England Test right around the corner.
