Following India’s dismal performance against Australia in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly put forth stern guidelines regarding players and their families. It is understood that the govering body of cricket in India has officially introduced its new travel policy wherein the families won’t be allowed to be with the players during the Champions Trophy 2025, which will start with the Pakistan versus New Zealand match at Karachi’s National Stadium on February 19, 2025.

India will start their campaign against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 20, followed by the high-octane clash against the arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23. As India refused to travel to Pakistan, the Rohit Sharma-led pack will play all their games in Dubai.

Notably, Team India’s horrific Test performance in Australia prompted the BCCI to introduce some new rules which included the disallowing of family members with the team, starting with the marquee ICC tournament, as per the report from the New Indian Express. With this rule, players will be allowed to be with their families only for a maximum of two weeks for the tour that lasts 45 days or more.

Talking to PTI on the condition of anonymity, a senior BCCI official said, "If anything changes then it is different but as of now, the players are unlikely to be accompanied by their wives or partners for this tour. One of the senior players had enquired about it and he was told that the policy decision will be followed."

"Since the tour is of less than one month, families won't be accompanying the players. But if exceptions are made, I think that individual will have to bear the full expenses as BCCI won't be covering any cost," added the official.

Families will be allowed during India’s England tour

Families will be allowed during India’s England tour, which will take place from June 20 to August 4, 2025. In England’s summer, the two-time World Test Championship (WTC) runners-up will play five Tests against the home side.

As per reports, the two-week stay of the families will be formulated later as the new rules were devised after India’s disheartening campaign in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Australia.
