Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Michael Hussey

CSK and India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad made his IPL debut in 2020, and a year later, in 2021, he won the Orange Cap by scoring 635 runs in 16 matches. Gaikwad played a key role in helping CSK lift the trophies in 2021 and 2023. After powerful performances for two seasons, he became one of the four players retained by the franchise. Overall, he played 52 matches for the side and scored 1797 runs at an average of 39.07. 

Michael Hussey got associated with the franchise in the inaugural season of the cash-rich T20 tournament, and in his maiden game for  CSK, he smashed 116 runs off 54 balls. Hussey didn’t play many games for CSK in 2009 and 2010, but in the next three years, he scored 1486 runs. In the 2013 season, he won the Orange Cap, and overall, the Aussie great has scored 1768 runs in 50 matches he played for the side. The team has had many successful openers, but Hussey was one of the most consistent openers for CSK.
